WWE Legend Hulk Hogan Dies at 71

 The renowned professional wrestler Hulk Hogan passed away early Thursday morning at his Clearwater, Florida, home at the age of 71.  Weeks after having neck surgery, he reportedly experienced cardiac arrest.  With his death, a chapter in the history of professional wrestling comes to a close.

 One of the most well-known characters in wrestling history was Hulk Hogan, whose real name was Terry Gene Bollea.  Hogan's charisma, distinctive attire, and loud voice helped make professional wrestling a household name in the 1980s and beyond.  He was inducted into the Hall of Fame twice and held the WWE Championship six times. 

On July 24, Hogan suffered a cardiac arrest and died at home in Clearwater, Florida.  Although he was declared dead at the scene, emergency personnel were contacted in the wee hours of the morning.

 Hogan had had neck surgery in recent months and was reportedly on the mend.  Fans and other wrestlers were horrified by his unexpected death, which was reported to have occurred despite hopeful updates. 

Emotional tributes have poured into the wrestling community.

 "He was more than a champion—he was the reason many of us fell in love with wrestling," a top wrestling official stated.

 "There will never be another Hogan," a former wrestler continued.  He gave wrestling a life of its own.

 Fans have also used social media to post sentimental comments, old match footage, and their best memories. 

Hogan was a cultural icon, TV personality, and actor in addition to being a wrestler.   With his legendary performance in "Rocky III" and his participation in reality TV, he helped to bridge the gap between entertainment and sports.   His role as commissioner for a new wrestling promotion, which was slated to launch in August, has not yet been filled. 

In the next few days, more information regarding the memorial plans will be released.  To commemorate his legacy, fans are setting up message boards and online vigils, and wrestling promotions around the world are planning tribute shows.

 Hulk Hogan represented a movement and was more than simply a wrestler.  His passing at the age of 71 is a huge blow to pop culture and the wrestling world.  His influence, from arena spotlights to household stardom, will always be remembered.
